Common Admission Test –CAT Entrance Exam

Common Admission Test or popularly named as CAT is a computer based examination testing the intelligence and skills of a student through Data Interpretation, Quantitative ability, Reasoning and Verbal ability.

Conducted by the Indian Institute of Management this test is an important pre-requisite for various management programs. Not only the IIMs but several other management institutes like Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) consider the CAT entrance exam as an important criterion for admission in their colleges. The test is conducted once in a year. It has a testing window of 20days and it schedules in the month of October and November. Appearing for exam this year will make a student eligible for admission in the next academic year.

It is one of the most prestigious examination and students try their best to get good score in the same. However there are some eligibility criteria for the examination. For the general students, one must pass the graduation exam with at least 50percentage marks to sit for thru entrance test. Again for the SC/ST candidates the required percentage is 45%. It is an examination where every section is scheduled in a timeline. Once the time is gone an examinee can never go back to the answers. Each section of the four sections mentioned above have thirty questions which need to be completed in one hour ten minutes. However the rules and regulations of the test keep on changing and getting revised.

The examination is not an easy task but with more the marks there lays the golden opportunity of studying in few of the finest colleges of the world. The application form of the CAT entrance examination remains available at selected bank branches by the end of the month of August. The students need to buy vouchers by giving a sum of Rs 1400 which is required to apply online. The SC/ST candidates may have the voucher in just Rs 700. The admit cards will be sent to the applicant via email which can be printed for a hard copy. The exam date will be within October 27 to November 23 and the last date for submitting the application form is September.

There are exclusive tuition classes and mock test classes which can be taken to be well prepared for the test. Once passes it has obvious high returns for the candidate.
